Neïba can't believe it. Alban Mortel, the most annoying boy in the entire universe, came to school with a cell phone! At nine years old, she has only one idea in mind: to get one herself. Will she succeed? And then, is a phone really a good idea at such a young age?
“My name is Madina Guissé. I was born in the megalopolis of Saint-Étienne-Lès-Remiremont, a town of 3,000 inhabitants, located in Lorraine. I took a Literary Baccalaureate to become a copywriter because I have always loved playing with words. Finally, I studied communication with a Master I at the Sorbonne and a Master II at Dauphine in management.
In 2016, after four years in events management in a large audit firm, I decided to quit my job to devote myself to writing children's novels.
I had a job that I wasn't passionate about and yet it took up a lot of my time AND energy. I had learned a lot in four years and I wanted to put this knowledge plus my own inclinations to the service of a project that I believe in. Writing children's novels for children of African descent then imposed itself.
Why a black heroine who evolves in a Western environment: but because it was time! As someone who has been passionate about reading since kindergarten, I would have liked to have a heroine like Neïba to make me understand that I exist as a little black girl. So as not to have to look for an ideal in something that I am not. France is a country where the black and mixed-race population is very present but underrepresented in books. Or when it is, it is often in a way that is neither very faithful nor very glorious.
In 2022, this is UNACCEPTABLE!! It is time to make things happen and it will only happen through us.”
