History of Black America, from plantations to rap culture
History of Black America, from plantations to rap culture
This story is an epic, and every note of this music is the most absolute proof that black people never gave up. This is what this book humbly sets out to decipher.
The history of America begins in violence. That of black America in a long cry. From the first deported Africans to the native African-Americans, it is a constant struggle for survival, which leads them to organize themselves into communities.
At the center of it, three institutions become the pillars of black emancipation: the church, the school, and the press. These tools, even if they prove to be double-edged, are their help. This pain of being oneself, in this context and despite everything, African-Americans sublimate it through the most incisive art there is: music. It remains the most effective medium to bear witness to the upheavals of this capricious history. Because these complaints, these exhortations, these advances are History, that of black America.
